Laser Quest

Like most boys Tyler and Ethan are always imagining they are soldiers or secret agents, so they love doing my version of a laser quest.

All that you need is a ball of wool or string, I use coloured wool so it looks more like lasers.

Next I tied the wool all around the kitchen, on the handles of cupboards and drawers.

The prize at the end was a crystal (or pineapple for afternoon tea).

Trying again while the pineapple was cut.

Enjoying their snack.

Have fun.

Lifesize paper me

I have always felt that one Seth is all this world needs. However today we made a lifesize copy of him and we both had a lot of fun doing it.

All that was needed was a roll of paper, pens and bits to decorate your 'copy' with. We used tissue paper, but you can use anything you like.

First Seth lay on the paper.

Then I traced around him, it was hard to keep him still.

Next he stuck hair on himself.

Then he drew on his eyes, nose and mouth.

I cut out t-shirt and shorts for Seth to decorate.

I was going to cut out shoes, but Seth wanted to draw his own on, he was very proud of those little scribbles.

His final masterpiece.
Have fun.

P.S if you like what you see, follow me.

Cardboard box house

We decided to make the most of the sunshine and get outside.  So much fun can be had with a box.

Get a big box, if you don't have any lying around the house often supermarkets are happy to give you some if you ask.

Cut out windows and doors, we love the "peek-a-boo" window.

Try different designs.
Seth also loved a postbox on his door.

Relax and maybe enjoy an afternoon tea in the new house.
Have fun.

Bank holiday gardening

Bank Holidays are great for getting things done and it is even better when the kids can get involved too, today was a good day to get some seeds planted.

We got the seeds, compost and pots.

Seth practised his counting while putting in the seeds.

Tyler covering the seeds with more compost.

Ethan watering a pot for his sunflower.

All the seeds ready in the window, hopefully they will grow well in the Scottish sunshine.

Building skills

The boys have been wanting to build their own hut, so we got together a saw, nails, hammer and some old scraps of wood. Although their skills aren't quite good enough to build their own hut, it didn't stop them having a good time trying.

After a morning of being indoors, the boys needed to get out.

Seth the builder.

Lucky Tyler got to experience hammering his own thumb. Something every boy needs to learn at some point.

Jack learning from big brothers.

Seth working hard.
Have fun.

Outdoor Climbing

Today was a beautiful, crisp day in Edinburgh, so we packed an afternoon tea and set off to find some good places to climb.

Trees are obvious but still a lot of fun to climb.

We found some old ruins and stayed here for the rest of the afternoon, the boys had a great time while I enjoyed sitting in the sun.

Tyler made it to the top.

Ethan determined.

Seth wanting to be like his big brothers.
I hope you can find some good places to climb that are just as entertaining and challenging.
Have fun.

Homemade Pizza

Its Food Fun Friday, Friday nights are when we have time to have a bit of fun with food and letting the boys have a go at making something. This week they made pizza. I made the base (recipe at the bottom) and they put their favourite topping on, pepperoni and cheese.

Spreading on the pizza topping

Ready for the oven.

Three happy tummies

First pizza experience
Have fun.

Pizza Base Recipe

Ingredients

For the dough
  • 650g/1lb 5oz Italian strong white flour
  •  sachet of easy-blend yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 25ml/1fl oz olive oil
  • 50ml/2fl oz warm milk
  • 325ml/11fl oz warm water

  Method

  1. Make the dough: mix the flour, yeast and salt together in a large mixing bowl and stir in the olive oil and milk. Gradually add the water, mixing well to form a soft dough.
  2. Turn the dough out on to a floured work surface and knead for about five minutes, until smooth and elastic. Transfer to a clean bowl, cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise for about 1½ hours, until doubled in size.
  3. When the dough has risen, knock it back, then knead again until smooth, roll into a ball and set aside for 30 minutes to 1 hour until risen again.
  4. Preheat the oven to its highest setting.
  5. Divide the dough into six balls and roll each out onto a lightly floured work surface until 20cm/8in in diameter.
  6. Spread a little passata (or homemade tomato sauce) over each pizza base and top with your favourite toppings.
  7. Bake the pizzas in the oven until the bases are crisp and golden-brown around the edges and any cheese on the topping has melted.
